Casual work and no payslips or P45

Hi, I'm having a trouble deferring my student loan because I was casually employed and wasn't given payslips or anything in writing. I worked for an elderly widower helping to clear his house, I'm a single parent on UC and declared my earnings to the DWP and my UC was adjusted accordingly. I was paid in cash and I paid this into my bank account and have provided all these details and proof to to student loans company/thesis. They are insisting on a P45 and payslips. I haven't got these as I wasn't given them. I no longer work for the man due to his inappropriate sleazy sexualised behaviour and the police have had to speak with him regarding harassing me so I can't go to him and ask for paperwork.
How do I solve this problem? I appreciate this might be better in legal or money but thought I'd try here first. TIA.
