Anyone here a postman?

I am looking to change jobs as I want to work more locally. One thing that has come up is a postman (person) in my local area. This would be a driving one.

Is anyone here a postie? Care to share the realities?

Not me but my FiL was a postie for a few years. He said that it was a great job once he got on his rounds but wasn't a fan of the sorting office because of politics - very unionised and very much working to rule so some people frowned on him starting sharp (like 5/10mins because of when MiL dropped him off rather than standing about doing nothing) to get his mail packed up and out in his round, even though it meant he could have finished early if all his work had been done and got out onto the golf course 🤷‍♀️

Years ago great job. Now it's hell on earth. It would take you years and years to get on the same round regularly so you will constantly having to learn new rounds. The time they say it should take are ridiculous and it takes a lot longer. They don't want to pay overtime and they can't keep staff!

I was up to 6 months ago…

Pros
Your fitness will go through the roof, lots of lovely people and dogs to meet, if you get a good partner it’s heaven, especially in summer

Cons
Its a boys club, incredibly sexist environment, pay sub standard, prepare to be worked to the bone

Was a lovely 2 year hiatus from my regular career but I eventually went back to what I was doing before
Best of luck whatever you decide x
