Recruitment Agencies...

Many years ago when I started work, I used to drop my CV into an agency, have a chat, do some skills tests and then they'd have a look to see what jobs they had available. If nothing there and then, they'd always call within a few days with some temp work.

25 years later and obviously things are very different, but I feel like I'm doing something wrong. I am emailing my CV to agencies, explaining the type of work I'm looking for, or uploading my CV to their website, but am hearing nothing back at all. What am I doing wrong??

Is it that I can only currently do fully remote work? I'm pretty highly qualified and experienced in a certain sector. Maybe that actually makes it harder? I'm happy to do lots of jobs, but it has to be remote. Does anyone know of any specific agencies that might be able to help? Thanks!

I'm not finding this at all. I only use sector specific agencies but they seem pretty responsive although August is never the best tike when everyone is away.

It really depends on the market, if there are jobs and a lack of candidates they are on you like flies round shit, the other way round and you won't see them for dust.

Thanks. Maybe I need to find more specific agencies. I've been looking since Christmas! I think the problem might be because I don't have an awful lot of experience in the sectors I'm interested in moving to, but I thought I'd be able to do more junior roles.

Have you got a LinkedIn profile? Recruiters tend to use this the most now.

DesperatePanda · 22/08/2022 19:54

Yes, I have. Thanks for mentioning it, as I probably could spend more time on there. I'm mainly using Indeed, TopJobs, CharityJob and Reed etc. I'll definitely try and use LinkedIn a lot more.

I wouldn't use any of those sites. Find an agency / agent specialising in what you are looking for.

Definitely focus more on LinkedIn than any of the others.

@abovedecknotbelow yeah, I think you're right. I'm not getting anywhere at all with them.

@GiltEdges Thanks, I've just been updating my profile and watching YouTube videos on how best to use it!
