Should I reapply for old job?

So I've been at my current job for 2 months, and whilst I'm generally happy, the job is a lot more quiet than what I anticipated. I'm a PA and I currently work for a senior director and will be working for an additional director in the upcoming weeks.

Before leaving my last role, my line manager at the time was aware that I was looking for a PA role (which was the next step up from the role I was working in, and we had a great working relationship). I was on a maternity cover contract and my role at the time was very busy for the most part. After leaving, I checked in my previous manager to see how she was and to see how things were and she mentioned that there would be changes in the department, so I had not been replaced at that current time.

I've now seen that my old job has been advertised as a PA position rather than the lower grade job I was doing whilst I was there. I'm in two minds about whether I should reapply. I was going to wait until the new director starts and see how my workload is then, but I don't know how long the vacancy will be up for.

Should I reapply or leave it?

It depends whats important to you. Is the money more, hours better, environment/management better? Better benefits?

I'm assuming the salary will be at around the same range that I'm on now as it should be a higher grade. The hours are the same as what I do now (inc wfh 3-4 days a week). The environment is more relaxed than the company I'm at now, as the one I'm at now is very well known and it's a large corporation. I did prefer the environment at my last job though. I think the benefits are very similar to what I get now also.

You could maybe have another chat with you old boss? No harm in asking about the position and seeing what kind of response you get? Did they not want you to stay on after your contract ended? What kind of vibe did u get from them when they were discussing the position?

SassyS89 · 23/08/2022 08:04

I resigned before my contract ended as I found a permanent position and the job I was working was part time and I was struggling to live off that salary. The role has now been advertised as full time, which is what I do now at the new job.

I've emailed my old manager just asking how long the vacancy is up for, so I'll wait and see what they say.

If you liked working there and think you'd be happy going back you should definitely apply.

Apply! You don’t necessarily have to actually take it, but take the chance while the vacancy is up.

If your old role was a temp one and they now have a permanent one I would apply.

I generally advise people never to go backwards btw
