Would you apply for this job?

Situation- I have worked in generalist HR for 8 years now and I have worked my way up to mid management level. I have my HR degree also. I joined a public sector organisation before Covid and to be honest I'm stuck in a bit of a rut, I don't find my job very exciting and I'm starting to become a bit lazy if I'm honest, simply down to the fact I find it so monotonous with very little creative input.

I thrive on HR project management type roles, and one has come up for an organisation close to my house with a really attractive salary . The thing is that I don't entirely meet all of the criteria, qualifications are met but I'm a bit light on some of the experience they are looking for. Would you apply anyway? I can make my experience fit the criteria (at a stretch) but I'm afraid of getting the job and not being good enough for the role

Apply, that's good for experience anyway. Be truthful about your experiences and areas you are keen to gain more practise they might like someone they can mold and
if the pick you great and if not you'll have only wasted a couple of hours on the application

Yes, go for it, apply anyway, you have nothing to lose.

I applied for a job that had a masters in public health listed as 'essential' I don't have that but I got offered the job anyway as had lots of transferable skills and experience.

Businesses are struggling to recruit just now so they might be happy to offer you the position if you show you're keen to learn and develop in the parts of the role that you are not so experienced in.

Be honest and upfront though, don't embellish or lie about your experience. I always respect a candidate who says 'that particular aspect of the job will be new to me but I'm keen to learn and do xyz training/shadowing/research to get up to speed.'

Why wouldn’t you? If you’ve got a few hours to tweak your cv specifically to the job, then go for it. I’m not sure I understand why you wouldn’t bother if you liked the sound of the role. If you don’t get it then you’ve just wasted a few hours, but also it’s time well spent to get your cv up to date.

Apply, be honest about your experience, where you think you have gaps and what you would do to fill those gaps.

Apply Ozp! U have nothing to lose and dont need to share with ur current work.

Look at job description and try to relate experiences to what u have got.

Good luck!!

Apply! I've read on so many threads that a man would apply with barely any of the criteria- so please go for it. Worst case, its interview experience and ask to get feedback! Best case- you get the job!!!

You must keep us updated OP. Best of luck.

I’ve been told that if you meet all the person criteria, you’re over qualified

GreenLunchBox · 25/08/2022 18:13

You're in human resources so you tell us!
