Recruiter curveball

I was recently contacted via linkedin looking to fill a position. From their original message I was able to work out the company and role (very niche) and therefore looked up the company's job board.

I'm looking to move jobs and the role he was recruiting for would have been a foot in the door, but probably not perfect for me. There was however another role that ticked all my boxes.

The recruiter called back and said the company had reviewed my profile and instead of interviewing me for the role he was recruiting for, they wanted to interview me for the alternative, the one that ticked all my boxes despite him not being contracted for this alternative role.

Is this a good sign or are the hiring company just entertaining the recruiter?

It's a good sign! Recruiters a very used to just getting straight rejections so it's very unlikely they're just being nice!

Thank you MilkTart. I am really quite excited about the potential opportunity so my fingers really are crossed!

So I got the original one (I think), nothing formal through yet but certainly expectation is that I will be getting an offer. Yippee.
