I've been working in a school for a while and love it.

I've got the option to finish my degree - gaining either a BSc or BEng, depending on where I study. Is one better than the other? Especially if I don't end up in education?

If I then do a PGCE, there has been a very generous financial 'welcome' in my subject field if I teach in secondary.

Am I mad to consider teaching? Please let me know the pros.

Also, as a sometime wheelchair user, does anyone have experience of mobility issues in school - how are they managed?

No, you’re not mad!
Positives of secondary teaching:

  • generous training bursary

  • increasing pay for those joining the profession

  • the ability to have an impact on so many young lives

  • summer holidays

  • job security

  • opportunities to be creative, work autonomously and feel part of a team

obviously some of these depend on finding the right school and there are definite negatives to the job. But I’m in my third year and have found it rewarding and mostly enjoyable. Be under no illusion of 3 o clock finishes and work-free holidays and prepare yourself for hard graft to resource and get to grips with the curriculum for the first couple of years! But overall I love it. And if you don’t, what’s the worst that would happen? You leave for another profession with lots of transferable skills and another qualification under your belt. Try it and see!
