Is a long stretch in one role off-putting?

I've been in my current role (middle management) for 8 years and I'm in my late 30s. There are a variety of reasons why I haven't moved on in this time, but I'm now job hunting with a vengeance. I haven't had much luck with applications though, and I can't help wondering whether staying in a role for 8 years is a bit off-putting to prospective employers and might show lack of ambition. Does anyone have any experience? I feel like I'm destined to stay in my current role forever!

I'm recruiting right now and 8 years in one role mid mgt wouldn't put me off. I'd assume maybe young children years or just you loved the job and didn't want to move at that time. Good luck!
