Paid in arrears

I don’t know if anyone can help me but I am due to start a new job on the 8th and will be getting paid on the 15th but the company pay 2 weeks in advance and 2 weeks in arrears. I am confused to how many weeks pay I will receive on the 8th will it be 1 or 3? Anyone else experienced this?

I would expect to be paid roughly three weeks: w/c 8th (arrears) 15th (advance), 22nd (advance).

But they can't pay only four full weeks AND always pay on 15th of the month. Do you have anything in writing you could post here?

This is my pay set up. In all honesty you need to check if you're being paid on the 15th at all if you're starting on the 8th. That's generally payroll cut off in my company. Sorry to scare you but something you need to know now really.

But yes, in theory starting on the 8th means you're paid from the 8th until the end of the month. 2 week advance and 2 weeks arrears is a simplistic way of explaining the pay structure, in reality you're paid for the whole month in the middle - whatever number of weeks that might be.

Overtime is a bugger though because that's obviously always paid in arrears and if you miss the payroll cut off you could be waiting 2 months to see the money.

Thank you yes my new starter info states that for anyone who starts on or before the 8th of the month they will get paid that same month on the 15th however for anyone who starts on or after 9th they will be paid on the 15th of the following month including any monies owing from the month before. I’ve been out of work a little while so all this arrears talk confuses me. I just don’t want to spend on my head what I don’t have!! Thank you
