Nhs pension and SMP

Hi. So I work for the NHS but through a Gp surgery so no access to hr. As part of my mat leave I am eligible 18wks half pay + smp for 18wks. But my employer have worked out my half pay taken smp from that and I get the leftovers. Is that right?? Assumed I would get to keep the smp aswell. Any advice would be great... ftm so no idea what I'm doing

It should be half pay plus SMP.

So my employer is doing it wrong??? Honestly have no idea what to do. I'm the 6th person to have get pregnant in the past 5yrs and they have all said their pay has been horrendous so wonder of this has happened for everyone

Contact your union or ACAS as that doesn't sound right at all

Yes they're doing it wrong. It's not very enhanced if they deduct the SMP

It depends on what your contract says. You get SMP - anything your employer gives you over that is discretionary - so if your contract says half pay including SMP then that's what it is.

@danni13 just to check - does if specifically say that you get NHS mat leave (the 18 weeks full pay etc) in your contract? Most GP surgeries don't follow this, even though you get NHS pension with GP they rarely offer the enhanced maternity pay. Just to check they're not just going to give you SMP.
