Which reference?

A few years ago I started a PGCE, but had to leave before the end of the year to become a carer for my autistic son. However I was doing quite well before this and completed my first placement with no problems.

Things have since stabilised with DS, to the point where I'm looking at returning to work. I've seen an entry level job working with children (not teaching) that I'd like. Should I use the placement as a reference, as it's more relevant or stick to my previous employer before the PGCE, that was not linked to children but means I avoid mentioning the 'failed' qualification.

If I do mention the PGCE, there's a lot of relevant experience I can talk about if I get to interview, but would the benefit outweigh the risk of coming off as unreliable by highlighting something I didn't see through?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated
