Outpatient Band 6 interview

Hi, I have been shortlisted for a Band 6 position in an Adult Outpatient clinic. Does anyone have any tips on what questions I may be asked and how many. I currently work in Gynae Outpatient and I’m sure I have a lot of transferable skills but I’m just nervous about not knowing what I may be asked. This will be my first Band 6 interview. Many thanks 😊

Is it a nursing position or admin?

There’ll definitely be something about the Health Boards (or the English equivalent) values and behaviours. Make sure you’ve read up on those and have examples of how you demonstrate each one.

Hi, yes it is a nursing position.

Thanks

Can’t really help because I’m in mental health but I did find YouTube really helpful for interview tips and example questions when I had my Band 7 interview.

I literally just searched for nursing interviews and there are different videos for all bands. Really helpful.

And good luck. If you already work in outpatients you must be the ideal candidate.

I got really nervous for my Band 7 interview even though I didn’t really want it and I knew I was the only applicant🤣 Lots of posts in mental health now you literally would be the only applicant, things are dire.

There may be management questions too.

B5 to a B6 is definitely different as there will of course be management responsibilities.

Have some of your management experience up your sleeve in case they ask.
So things like have you ever had a go at doing off duty? Managing difficult staff or patients.
Have you ever needed to challenge someone for poor practice?
Also change management, have you participated in any changes within your B5 role? Have an example to hand.
Have an idea of something that you would like to change to benefit patients or staff. Have a good idea about how you would go about it.
Good luck!

I work in admin but typed some questions a while back for the interviewing panel

Always ask about the trust values and can you give examples of how you feel you demonstrate these

A scenario question or 2 usually

  • a list of tasks to prioritise
  • a problem solving issue like staff shortages and how to cover it and who will be doing what

Something on GDPR and having to deal with potentially people you know or relatives and storing notes/ personal details etc....

Processes in place for various things like referrals to specialist services

Safeguarding questions eg making referrals to social work colleagues, DOLLs etc

Mentoring question regarding student nurses and leading by example

Hope you get the job 🤞
