Salary error

Ciderwine · 29/07/2022 10:24

I was overpaid last month by approx one days salary. It was put in with bonus which I didn't realise was an error as I had a really good month..they have deducted this amount from this months salary without any explanation or indication they intended to do so. Aibu to complain that I wasn't even given the option to pay back over a couple of months

when did you notice the overpayment? If you’ve known for the whole month then you had plenty of time to contact payroll and organise it to be repaid.

it’s fairly common to take back over paymeant in one go. If you know it’s there and chose to spend it then it’s the risk you take

You can complain but they don’t actually have to allow you to pay back in instalments. However, when things go wrong resulting in overpayment, it is good business practice to
A. Raise the issue first with the employee/s affected and,
B. Come to a mutually satisfactory agreement on how overpayments will be paid back.
The fact your company did neither of these is a good indication of how they view employees and reflects badly on them.

Thanks for all your advice. Agree it's bad form not to make aware. I have queried my salary I the past and told the figures were correct so I was waiting to see would they get in touch if there was a mistake.

One days salary!! Why even waste your time mulling this over

Sorry I should have said I only work 16 hours per week so it amounts to a fair bit for me 😀
