Where to find remote marketing roles?

I live in Cornwall and the pool of vacancy roles is very small. I’m struggling to find work after a short period of unemployment.

I’ve read a lot about fully remote roles and I’ve applied for a few via LinkedIn but never get anywhere.

Is there a good recruiter to use or a decent website? Indeed don’t seem to have many remote roles - just roles that state WFH a day per week.

Im feeling so depressed about the lack of decent work here that I’m tempted to move up country. I’m 35 and it seems that much younger applicants are getting employed instead.

I think you need to optimize your LinkedIn. Are you using the right keywords? Go on YouTube and search. LinkedIn is still the biggest marketplace. Can you show work, say what you have achieved? Look at other peoples profiles for info. And 35 is no age at all! Also start joining LinkedIn groups and contributing to get noticed.

Linkedin? Recruiters focussed on the sectors you are targeting? I am in London and about to make an offer to a marketing senior exec who lives 2 hours away. She will come to the office 2 days per week initially but will probably flex that down to 1 day. Are you looking for 100% remote working? Maybe a freelance role would be better?

I think contacting recruiters is a great idea as they will be motivated to look in your behalf

why are you not getting interviews? Do you have the experience/meet the person spec?

ThecolouringinDept · 19/07/2022 13:14

lovely replies! Thank you :) I am getting interviews but not getting 2nd interviews. The feedback I’ve had is usually

  1. we had a few graduates apply for this role and we felt that they would find it easier to fit in.
  2. we fear you would get bored (I applied for a Marketing Assistant role)
  3. you don’t have enough experience (marketing exec role)

I’ll have another look at my LinkedIn profile - I’m sure it’s optimised but we just don’t have that many vacancies down here. Cornwall is a bit nothingy.

I would consider a role in Exeter if it was hybrid. I actually love working in the office!

Also been asked “and how does your husband feel about you working?”

in my interview! Sums it up for me really :(

Have a look at a job site called Otta, it is geared towards start ups and tech companies and there are always some fully remote roles there.

That sounds like a bullet dodged.

I agree, LinkedIn is the place to look, Indeed is secondary -- not all companies will pay for a LinkedIn job ad.

Do you have a lot of experience?

ThecolouringinDept · 19/07/2022 13:39

Otta looks great! Thank you!

Yes I have 14 years of experience and use Adobe Creative Suit and can maintain WordPress websites too. I love data and love doing marketing reports as well. And Google Analytics qualified etc. :)

I think the issue might be Cornwall!

When I say “maintain WordPress websites” - I mean I can code 😳

Sorry I’m struggling with the heat today!

Quite possibly, if you have a good portfolio -- although it's also possible that there's a bulge of candidates in this experience level.

I posted an ad for a very junior role with your skill set a few weeks ago, wanting to hire a recent grad. We had so many candidates who had your level of experience and more applying it has definitely made me wonder what is going on!

I think I’ll have to retrain but it’s difficult to get a role in public sector and NHS here. I only have B2B experience.

Try these sites as well:

www.charityjob.co.uk/

uk.digitalmarketingjobs.com

jobs.cathedralappointments.co.uk

What I'm seeing is a lot of roles are being advertised as on-site or hybrid rather than fully remote, but you might be able to negotiate.

Also look at the Civil Service (often have Marketing roles), NHS, Uni's, FE colleges, schools etc.

Thank you! I’ll have a look :)

Tiny update: cathedral appointments are rude.

Not recommended!
