Low confidence at work

After some advice on how to deal with low confidence at work. My manager now wants me to take on a role that i did previously, the role is a bit more stressful than my current role and when I did it before I found it quite difficult but thrived on that and always felt proud of myself when I completed the job.
A lot has happened in my life since I have done the role and I am not confident in my ability anymore and also suffer with anxiety. I'm really worried about not been able to perform the role or it causing me anxiety.
Should I speak to my manager or should I just wait and see how I get on in the role?

Firstly, you can do either thing, it is your choice.

If it was me, and I wanted to try, I would ask for a temporary role change with a review, so I could try but with my old job as a fallback.

Talk to your manager. It's ok to say no thank you if not right now.

Well I'm sure your manager wouldn't have asked you to take on the role if he/she didn't think you were up to it. Does your manager know about your anxiety? If you have a good relationship with them would be tempted to have an honest conversation about what is holding you back from taking on the additional responsibility, it may be they have some suggestions for how to support you.
