What to wear to interview in 38* heat!!

First interview in a long time - left my last job 4 years ago to study/retrain plus caring for 3 children, one with complex needs. I was in last job for 4 years so it's been 8 years since I last interviewed!!! Very nervous. It's a remote working role with monthly in office meetings. But the interview is in person in London. In 38-40* heat on Tuesday!

Now obviously as it's an interview normally would wear formal clothes, skirt, jacket and shirt/blouse, heels.... but I will be a sweaty mess getting train and tube in that sort of heat. What would you wear? If only it was a zoom interview I could sit there with smart clothes on and a fan on me then get changed straight after Grin

I’d travel in in cool clothes, get there 20 minutes earlier and find a loo to change in I think. Good luck!

Yes I'd do that too- ask reception if you can leave the bag with them

Yes 100% this.

Summer gear with suit in a backpack.

I agree! And if it's the sort of place which wouldn't hire you because you dressed appropriately for the climate, then you don't want to work there anyway.

Yep also agree with this, and bring some baby wipes or a small towel you can dampen to freshen up with if you feel a bit sweaty before changing!

Ditch the jacket. Short sleeved, cotton blouse, smart skirt and smart shoes. If you have a smart summer dress that would also work.

MikeWozniaksMoustache · 17/07/2022 17:29

Get a small handheld fan to keep you cool on the train / walk

Aria20 · 17/07/2022 17:29

@FriedTomatoe I do have smart summer dresses that are not low cut so maybe a potential option

Id possibly contact hr and ask if the meeting room is airconditioned and would be available for 15 minutes before the interview for you to sit with a cold drink and just compose yourself.

Yes this is what I did many years ago in one of the hottest summers we'd had for a while. I arrived 30mins early in order to tidy myself up in the Ladies, compose myself, and sip a glass of cold water ahead of my appointment. I got the job!

Hope all went well for you, OP. 🌹
