Job suggestions for me ?

Leading on from the thread in AIBU about how women got to £100k it made me think how I can achieve that when I cannot even figure out what I should do career wise.

I have a 1st undergraduate and just finishing a masters however I am nearly 40 with barely any real life work experience which I think will hold me back. I worked as a legal secretary 20 years ago for 2 years and did an admin role for 3 years and that's it! (I had 3 children by 23)

I'm enthusiastic, determined, hard working and get on with people easily - I'm also the type that if I say I'm going to do something/be somewhere then I will be.

I'm a single parent and am feeling the imminent pressure of finding a job that will give me the potential to learn, grow and climb the salary tree.

Any career suggestions?

There are firms that run specific return to work schemes for people who have been out of the workforce for some time which might be worth looking at. Deloitte is one. They are the larger, corporate firms that do this so it will depend on where you are located on whether this is helpful.

Another thought is to use the time you might have now to get up to speed with the latest computer packages and then consider looking for a legal secretarial role with a view to training to be a paralegal. I don't know what's involved in the training but might be worth exploring.
