How many days do you wait after applying for a job?

I'm just curious how many days do you wait after applying for a vacancy.

I've been applying for several positions but so far have not received any request for an interview. I'm wondering if I need to make my CV look better or find a job in s different industry.

Don't job adverts usually specify a closing date? I would wait at least a week after that date has passed, to give them time to shortlist candidates, send interview invites out etc

The more urgent the job needs, the quicker they will come back to you.
Very personally I tend to give it 1-2 weeks before hope starts diminishing.

I'd applied recently to a council housing contact centre style role with an official closing date and after I'd applied looking into it, it said they can take up to a month to respond. Whereas a fixed term job and a little company looking for someone to start quickly/pressing issues were in touch like same day as applied. (I think I was somewhat lucky) it's not really over until you hear something.
