New job worries

So I started a new job this week. It’s in an extremely busy area I’m definitely rusty in, and I made this clear at my interview.
it’s a small team of only 5 people, all home working.
My concern is that yesterday the manager organised a zoom meeting for me to meet a colleague. Within 5 minutes this woman was basically slagging off a colleague, who joined a few months ago, suggesting she wasn’t working hard and hinting she was dodging work. The manager didn’t challenge this at all.
I guess I am just wary that I am walking into a toxic workplace as I already feel I have a lot to learn.
any thoughts, or am I being too sensitive?

No advise but this is exactly how I’m feeling about my new job. The manager and management in general take part in and do nothing to challenge other staffs slagging off each other. I hate it and it’s my first employed job (been self employed for years) for 20 years so I worry this is how it is everywhere…

Sorry @incognito you’ve had the same. I’ve now been told there are some issues within the team… going to see how it goes, I won’t stay if it becomes too unpleasant.

You're not joining a toxic workplace. You're working from home. You can survive a bit of conflict on a Zoom meeting.

Not a very nice start by the sounds of things! I’d just keep an eye on it for now - you’re still very new and you might have met this colleague when they were having a bad day and venting. The manager should be more mindful of them doing that in front of new staff but who knows, maybe they spoke to them privately afterwards?

If you start to see a pattern of colleagues talking about each other in this kind of way and managers ignoring it, then raise it at your 1 to 1s - that is when you can start identifying it as toxic and flagging to leadership.
