OK - things are getting desperate for me finding a job - and I need to go to town tomorrow to visit some job agencies - what do I need to take???

I have NO idea what I need - and they're not being very helpful on the phone (ie they're all engaged when I try and ring or no-one is answering LOL).

I don't hold out much hope of getting anything from them but I have to at least try....

Take copies of your CV and some ID. They may want you to fill in their own application forms too but at least you'll be prepared.

And dress as if you were going for an interview! Good luck

You just need to take a cv, a positive attitude and a smile! Oh and dress smartly or in keeping for the type of job you are going for.

Not sure what it is you do or want to do, for some jobs you may need a portfolio of work you have done. As you are planning to see agencies, probably nothing else you need.

I'm busy writing a recruitment guide/interview guidelines for a high street retailer at the moment!

foofi · 15/01/2008 14:40

If they're not helpful, perhaps they're not the agency to try!

FarcicalAlienQueen · 15/01/2008 14:40

no portfolio or anything - I'm just looking for "unskilled" part-time work cleaning/caring/anything .

I don't have a CV.....well I do but it's utter sh*t.......is there a website somewhere that can give me a decent template to work from???

foofi - we've only got a limited number in town - so it's them or nothing! even if they don't get any work for me - at least it won't be as a result of a lack of trying from me

Just do 1 side with your Name, Address, phone number at the top, then a section on your employment history, then a section on qualifications/education, and a couple of referees at the bottom.

You can also add in a bit on hobbies etc or a bit on skills - ie why you'd be great for the type of work that you are applying for.

The agencies that you are going to see will have application forms so you may not need to use it.

Good luck!

I have a CV I can email you if you like so you can see what it's like ??

It's not fba, but I copied it off xp's which was done for him at some work directions place.

cant the job centre help with finding work, CV's, etc?

doggiesayswoof · 15/01/2008 14:49

If you don't have a CV, I wouldn't rush it for tomorrow - they will have application forms. However you should do one at some point - it only needs to be one page so it's not a horrible difficult task or anything.

Try putting "free cv template" into Google - there are loads.

FarcicalAlienQueen · 15/01/2008 14:50

lol was just going to ask what fba stood for

that would be lovely if you wouldn't mind nutcracker

I have 2 weeks until I get my last SMP payment - I've resigned from my job (wouldn't go back there for all the money in the world) but need to have something to make sure I get an "income" of some description at the end of February !

No problem, whats you email addy ??

FarcicalAlienQueen · 15/01/2008 14:52

I've been checking the job centre website every day looking for jobs.......nearly got one - had a phone call this morning offering me a job (without even having an interview) from an application I sent in 2 weeks ago......unfortunately I'd applied for the morning vacancy......and they were offering me the evening one whcih I can't do .

DSW - I know it shouldn't be a difficult task (especially given my limited work history ) but every time I try and do one it looks like utter cr*p and if "I" had it land on my desk from someone applying for a job that I was recruiting for I wouldn't give it a second look.
