Stepping down gracefully

I’ve been covering my manager’s special leave for the last year, and in August I will start the process of handing back to my manager and resuming my old assistant manager role. It’s fair to say that it’s been a tricky year for lots of reasons and there are things that I could definitely have handled better. I’m also quite angry about how certain things have been handled by the SMT.

I want to hand over gracefully and calmly, even though I feel like crying and raging inside. I’m not sure how honest to be about certain situations. I feel quite insecure about what my role will be going forward.

Does anyone have any suggestions from their own experience on how to handle this for the best outcome. I’m struggling for perspective at the moment.

I'm not too sure what SMT is?

Surely when you step down, there will be a handover? That will be the perfect time to raise any issues.

Your post is quite vague so I'm not too sure what you mean regarding certain situations or why you feel insecure about your role going forward. Has something happened? Have you noticed their are issues in the department?
