i'm going back to work in a couple of months and am hoping to work one 14.5 hr weekend shift a week and one early shift in a weekday (which day is flexible with dp's work). to do this dp will do a 4-12 midnight shift on the weekday i am working and once a quarter say my mum will cover me on a weekend when dp also has to work.

dp today howover today suggested he does 10hr days to allow for three days off so i could in theory do two 12.5 hr shifts instead. this would be more money abou £150 a month more, but the downside would be him not being around for bedtime 4 nights a week and also me having two days wiped out iyswim? as i would get home at either 8pm or 10pm on the second shift pattern.

if anyone has managed to follow this i'd appreciate your opinions!!

would say if you can get buy without the £150 stick with the original. IMHO £150 a month now is not worth missing out bedtimes etc. that your DP may look back on with regret in a few years and you'd regret being too tired to enjoy time with your family.

Don't forget to factor in the two of you getting time together. Not sure but option 2 sounds like it might be "ships passing in the night!"

Yes I think the same as both of you! Only problem being that if I don't do the 12.5 hr shift pattern on return to work I will loose the right to do them. So I need to be sure iyswim!
