Maternity pay confusion

Hi All, I will be finishing up work in 3 months to go on maternity leave. Our policy has recently changed and I now have the option of either 20 weeks at full pay or 6 weeks full pay with 28 weeks half pay and SMP. I'm unsure how to work out which option is best. I currently earn 2k a month before tax etc. Is anyone able to help?

Monetarily it is the same.

Same from a cash perspective, so I'd be looking at how much time you want off. Well jealous of that policy. I got 6 weeks at 90% salary then statutory

Thanks for your reply! I just can't get my head around the SMP figures...must be baby brain lol. My employer are very good to staff which is rare these days

Do I get SMP at the same time as the half pay??

You would need to check whether it is on top or the employer scheme adds to it to full pay/half pay level.

Typically, no. What this normally means is that you'll get half pay overall, with SMP topped up by your employer.
