Term Time

hello,
I have been working term time for over 7 years but have only ever worked for 39 weeks of the year however, my new job role is 42 weeks. I have enquired with my new employer and I am waiting to hear back but I am wondering when the extra 3 weeks are worked? Does anyone else work 42 weeks term time only? Are the extra weeks worked in the 6 week holiday?

It could mean that you work 38 weeks and the extra 4 are your 4 weeks paid holiday? So you're paid for 42 weeks.

It'll be your holiday allowance. I'm paid 42 weeks but only work term time.

I work 42 weeks. So it's term time, then 15 days are worked over various school holidays as agreed with my manager so I'll usually do a few days in each school holiday.

I get paid annual leave that is extra to the 42 weeks and my contract states I can only take the annual leave during school hols.

Depends on the job. Our office manager works the week at the end of the summer, preparing for the new academic year; our bursar usually does a week at Easter as it links to the financial year. The cleaning staff do the first two weeks of summer and a few days during the other holidays….

It depends on the role. I work my extra 3 weeks flexibly, as and when it suits me and business demands. I also use those hours if I work extra during term time.

An exams officer, for example, will have set weeks they need to work in the summer around results days and a finance officer will usually need to work over Easter for the year end (in an LA school, acadamies' year end is August)

My actual contract states:

Days/Hours of Work:
18 hours during the [Normal] Working Period and your normal working days are Monday to Thursday.
Your contract of employment is for 42 weeks per year 42 weeks of which must be worked during the Normal Working Periods.
The remaining 10 weeks constitute the non-working period and includes your entitlement to annual leave, which shall be taken in accordance with clause 15. Salary payments will be spread over 12 pay periods.

I think that just means you can't take leave in term time.

Sounds to me like they expect you there for 42 weeks and any annual leave entitlement is lumped into your non working remaining 10 weeks along with whatever unpaid leave makes up the time.

What is the role?

At my husbands school the ones who work during the holidays are:-

• admin (for timetable prep, new students set up, banking, exam results, etc)
• teaching assistants (providing holiday clubs)
• cleaners (deep cleans)
