Finding a new job and childcare

I’ve been told my job role will be changing from a flexible working pattern Mon-fri to a 24/7, 20 week rolling rota. Each shift is 9 hours and all the shifts have hours where childcare is not open. It’s impossible for me to have such a lifestyle change and is definitely not the lifestyle I want for myself or family. We have been told as the role matches our current role by a certain amount we have to accept or be handed our notice. I’ve put in a flexible working request stating I cannot do the late or night shifts but willing to do weekends. I can’t see it being approved so I’m applying for other jobs. My toddler will start pre school 9am-3pm in sept.
I just don’t know what hours I’m looking for as I currently work 3 days a week and happy to work more but hoping if others could share their hours and how they juggle childcare along side them.

Childminder to collect from preschool?

Clara90 · 01/06/2022 08:27

Unfortunately childcare in my area is hard to come by and can’t find any childminders with space and no nursery’s with space, hence why he will be going to preschool. My parents would help maybe a couple days and pick him up but it’s just hard to no what’s best

Ask your union for support. Could be indirect sex discrimination and quite possibly not enforable on people with existing contracts.
If no union recognition make contact with relevant union organising dpt who may still take it on to get recognition agreement in the company
