New manager problem

user9087765 · 30/05/2022 18:48

We have recently had a new manager start and I feel that my colleagues are trying to give her a bad impression of me.
The other day the new manager was speaking to some of the other staff about the possibility of working some overtime and one of my colleagues told her to not bother asking me as I won't do it. When she asked me I said I could do a few hours and one of my colleagues said that she was shocked I had agreed.
I have never been asked to do overtime before so don't know why they keep thinking I will refuse.
I keep thinking about what other lies they are feeding the new manager.

You should have regular 1:2:1s with your new manager. Next time just mention the overtime and repeat that you are happy to do it and drop in to the conversation that you no idea where colleagues got the idea you wouldn’t do it. Then add in I hope they haven’t misled you about other things.

This gives your manager the chance to ask if they have heard anything else.
