Help me decide which job to take

Which job should I take? Both are jobs within Construction/Engineering.

Job 1
46K salary.
Not much progression beyond this point.
10 minute drive.
Management responsibilities for a team of 6.
I have a friend who works there that advises that team doesn't want to be there and has a high staff turnover.
9-5 job.

Job 2
30k salary.
Progression opportunities.
10 minute drive.
No management responsibilities
9-5 job.

My heart is saying job 2. My head is saying job 1 as that's a hefty extra chunk of money.

Job 2

Depends - what stage are you at for your career? Young children? Social life etc?

I would go for job 1 if I was single and no caring responsibilities, you could make a difference. job 2 if more flexible and you care for others

Fairly experienced. 32 years old. No kids but would want them in a year or two.

Job 1 but leave after a year or so and get a better paid job in a nicer place. If you’re worth £46k you’d be crazy to take £30k. Career progression means nothing in job 2 if you’d be waiting years to get close to the £46k of job 1.

This is a good idea. It's just about whether or not I can stomach the job for that long.

You're right though it would take a long time for me to climb upwards if I started from 30K.

Job 1. Earn to save for having children.
