I would appreciate some advice on an issue I'm having with HR in NHS. I have requested my retirement pack to start the process of retiring. I have been off sick for the last few months due to a health issue and am due to go back to work soon. This issue has helped solidify my decision to retire due to the nature of my work. In February I submitted my application for long service leave and after 2 months hadn't heard anything phoned and emailed relevant person twice and advised it would be addressed soon but they were busy. So I then went off sick. A few weeks ago I emailed to ask if this had been sorted. Discovered relevant person off on long term sick. Then followed more unresolved emails and phonecalls. Sent an email to HR this am and just got a reply ..telling me this person will be off sick for another 4 or 5 weeks and they would forward it to her !! I have responded and said i can't understand why it can't be given to someone else and I assumed that they weren't aware that this person would definitely come back in 4 to 5 weeks. Am I being unreasonable to expect a enter response than this and if they don't act is there anything I can do ?

Email the Head of HR/HR director, put a brief timeline, make it clear that it is unacceptable that it has been 3 months and you are being asked to wait a further 5 + weeks before you receive your retirement pack. State the delay in receiving your retirement pack is adversely impacting on your health. Ask for the retirement pack to be sent to you by xx date (10 working days or timeline specified in procedure).

If you don’t get the pack by the date specified lodge a grievance. - you are retiring so nothing to lose.
