Is this an acceptable way around?

Hiya all

Would it be acceptable to provide HR details for reference as opposed to a specific individual, i.e line manager? Any one ever done that?
Cheers

References should be done by HR anyway. I'm not allowed to give references anymore, they go to HR and all they say is 'x worked here from x to x'

What's the issue with your line manager?

Buzzer3555 · 24/05/2022 08:35

I did that as my line manager had retired so the new one didn't know me. I think its pretty normal. They confirmed my dates of work and that i had no disciplinaries etc. I provided a character reference from the local vicar.

Yes pretty standard to go to HR first.

Well thanks all, I'll certainly start the day feeling lighter! Let's say that I've only been with the company a short while, and can't wait to get out! So this is definitely a relief!

Yep, normal to use HR. Line managers aren’t allowed to do references where I work.
