High paid career vs a job + investments income - which would you choose?

Given the choice, would you rather have a high flying career, maybe earning 80K+ a year? Or a lower paying job say 45K a year, but then having extra equity via investments, property etc?

Part of me thinks the latter.

But the ego in me thinks that I'd prefer having the high flying high paid career.

Just a thought.

The high flying career, assuming I loved it. Work isn't always just about earning an income. Job satisfaction, knowing you're doing something worthwhile and doing it well, being part of a team, meeting different people etc. Lots of non-financial rewards and benefits from a career.

The latter! I have the “high flying career” and I hate it (although not enough to give it all up…yet) And I rather suspect I would hate it no matter where I worked. If I could do a job I loved that paid less and have the investment income to make it up to my current level, I’d do it in a shot

What's the difference if you use the extra money to invest ? Always assuming you intend to leave the high flying job as soon as you are in a position to feel 'less is more'.
