Waitrose job interview

ER1992 · 03/05/2022 16:18

Hi, just wondered if anyone has an experience of a waitrose job interview? I'm doing some prep to prepare myself with what that usual interview type questions would be but I believe there is a group excersise aswell, does anyone know what this involves?
Or if there are any specific questions I should prepare for.
Thanks

I had mine at the beginning of the pandemic so there wasn't a group activity . I had to do that on my own 🤣 but it was a priorities task. Store is due to open, its chaos and in dissaray, here's 10 things that need doing what order you doing it in and why.

Then questions I got asked were the usual stuff about examples of when ive worked under pressure, worked as a team, how I've varied my communication styles. But there were some that threw me because I just didn't expect them. The very first question was "so. Tell me about yourself". Turns out they really do want to know about you as a person. And another one I had was "what's your favourite food"

Hope that helps. Good luck!

That's for the response @thismeansnothing
Thanks for the info, I'll prepare as well as I can. How random asking what your favourite food is.
Did you get the job after yours?

Not me but DS had an interview . Wanted to know about him , his favourite food , favourite restaurant.
Group activity was store is due to open in 2 h , all these tasks need doing , prioritise them .

@ER1992

Yup I got the job. I work nights doing online shop picking and replenishment. Didn't hear I'd got it for nearly 2 weeks though.

ER1992 · 09/05/2022 12:30

@whowhatwerewhy I wonder why they ask the questions for favourite food and restaurant. For some reason this makes me. More nervous than the standard type of interview questions haha

Good Customer service

SouthOfFrance · 09/05/2022 12:33

They are big on providing great customer service and being helpful etc, so maybe think about that angle.

whowhatwerewhy · 09/05/2022 13:47

Don't worry op , DS is a fussy eater said his fave restaurant is mcD Confused they seemed to appreciate his honesty as he got the job 👍

SouthOfFrance · 09/05/2022 17:34

Maybe the question shows how chatty you are? Eg if you are on the till and someone starts up a random conversation with you how will you reply, awkwardly or chatty?

thismeansnothing · 10/05/2022 16:58

Well it is a supermarket and they are big on food. They want to see if you are passionate about what they sell, how you could cook it, what you'd pair stuff up with. Especially if you end up on counters that's how you make potential extra sales. If you have an experience or a like of something that might be what encourages a customer to give it a try.

whowhatwerewhy · 10/05/2022 17:23

Have you had your interview?

ER1992 · 10/05/2022 17:33

@whatwerewhy not yet it's not until next week.
Another question for you all... Do you know how likely it is to be kept on after the temporary contract runs out

OP posts:
whowhatwerewhy · 10/05/2022 18:31

Sorry I've no idea on the contract side . Best of luck for the interview

No. It’s really to judge how you answer a personal question you weren’t expecting. Can you think on your feet, are you open and honest, confused or whatever.
Waitrose have people that just work on non food sections ( if you bite your nails you can’t work in fresh food). The chances of someone wanting a Thai curry recipe whist you are putting out toothpaste is slim.

Temporary contracts are the norm so they can get rid of slackers. Sure they will keep you if you put the effort in.

thismeansnothing · 19/05/2022 11:13

How did it go @ER1992 ? Did you get the job?

ER1992 · 20/05/2022 12:10

@thismeansnothing I felt it went well it was a lot more relaxed than I was expecting she only asked 3 questions and then it was more of a chat about the role etc and there was only 2 of us for the group excersise so that was much better than I expected. I haven't heard yet as they are interviewing all week so should hear something next week

OP posts:
whowhatwerewhy · 26/05/2022 08:55

Have you heard if you were successful?

ER1992 · 26/05/2022 10:12

@whatwerewhy not yet 🤦🏼‍♀️. I was told id get a call either way so I'm hoping itll be today or tomorrow. Starting to lose hope as the week goes on though

whatdodos · 26/05/2022 10:22

Mine was over 10 years ago so can't remember much at all but there was a group activity and I remember at one point was asked to stand up and sell them a pen? Good luck! X

YummieMummyof3 · 30/05/2022 18:41

Have they contacted you as yet? We would all like to know the outcome.

ER1992 · 31/05/2022 16:49

I still haven't heard anything so I'm assuming not, I was told id hear either way withing a week but its 2 weeks tomorrow and I've still not heard anything. I have tried calling the store twice for feedback and get told someone will call me back but they don't. I'm a bit disappointed that they haven't just let me know and what the reasons may be

I can imagine the questions going... 'gruyere and caramelised onion are to crisps as himalayan yak and Campania Italian buffalo are to what in the dairy aisle?'

whowhatwerewhy · 31/05/2022 20:36

Sorry you haven't heard anything. Very frustrating not getting feedback

YummieMummyof3 · 25/06/2022 11:06

I am interested to hear what happened? Did they finally come back to you?
