Hi, just a but confused about different payments. My husband is self employed, in construction. Does anyone know if there is a government payment he can claim once baby arrives (along the lines of stat pay for example) to help with bills, or are we just going to have to take a pay hit for 2 weeks or so... just conscious that its our first and would really like him home for about 2 weeks to help out, but realistically we wouldnt be able to afford him being out of work for 2 weeks...

Doesn't look like there are payments for paternity leave if you're self employed.

Can you save some money in advance?

Hey thanks for your reply! Yeah that's what we're going to try to do, it's just a bit crappy that self employed are overlooked

Employers would nornally pay the SMP so essentially he is his own employer

If you were the self employed person then you could have claimed maternity allowance
