Civil Service Grade 7 interview

ABBAsnumberonefan · 20/04/2022 08:40

I have a grade 7 CS interview coming up soon - does anyone have any advice? It says it’s experience based rather than behaviour / strength so I’m a bit lost as to what to expect! Blush

Go through the requirements and turn them into questions based on the competence framework e.g. tell me about a time when you had to deliver at pace. You can reuse examples from your application, remember to be clear what you did but also that G7s will deliver results through others.

Thank you! I’m just a bit confused as there’s isn’t any behaviours mentioned in the job spec - will the experience questions still be based on behaviours?

There is info on the "experience" component of Success Profiles here: assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/744221/Success-Profiles-Experience-vFV.pdf but to be honest, i've only ever seen this as one or two questions alongside the usual behaviour questions. What type of role is it? Are there any behaviours listed at all in the candidate pack?

There's normally someone who is a point of contact. I'd get in touch with them and ask what they mean by experience based quotations.

Is it a technical role, requiring specific knowledge? I have done a recruitment for G7 where they were looking for particular technical knowledge. The candidates had to do a short technical presentation and then were asked some questions about it, then a couple of other questions to test their knowledge. Does this sound like it fits with the job you have applied for?
I don't think I've ever seen a total absence of behaviours, though! Normally they mention at least one.

Thanks all!

yes it’s a technical role but no presentation etc involved! I’ve never seen a role without behaviours either - it’s thrown me 😅

Hi OP, what happened? Asking because I have something similar tomorrow! Focus is on skills (although there is a presentation)… Tips welcomed, if possible?!

@whatodowhattodo it was quite a while ago now so I can’t remember the questions specifically but they were essentially the same as behaviour ones but they were looking for specific things I.E. tell us about a time you lead a team of [job] to produce a piece of work. Not the best example sorry but it’s more experience based I would say!
