Pregnant again when returning from mat leave

Hello! I’m just looking for anyone who has discovered that they’re pregnant again whilst on maternity leave.

I am due back to work this week after 1 year maternity leave with dd2 and I am 8 weeks pregnant with dc3. I was just wondering if anyone has been in a similar position and how their work/management reacted to the news? I will only be back 7 or so months and will then be going off again! It’s giving me so much anxiety!!!!

Anyone been there?? Xxx

Yeah I've been in a similar situation. There is 12 months between my 2, I took 1 year annual leave with DC1 and found out I was pregnant again after 3 month so I continued that mat leave and went straight onto mat leave again for another year.

My work wasn't bothered. My wage for mat leave 2 was poor as it was a percentage of what I earned during my pregnancy but I expected this anyway. You should be okay though as you are returning to work for a period prior to going back on leave.

Congrats on your pregnancy

Yes, but it was a long time ago.

I had a year off on maternity leave with DC1 and went back to work at almost 5 months pregnant with DC2, having got pregnant when DC1 was 7 months old.

I did try to hide it for a bit, but tbh my second baby bump was quite obvious even with baggy clothes Grin My employers had to suck it up really, I was well within my rights to take another year off on maternity leave. I went as soon as my contract allowed, which meant I was only back at work for three months. They kept my maternity cover on, which was great for her.

Yes I felt a bit guilty, but as I said my employers couldn't do a thing about it. They did bite my hand off when I volunteered for redundancy when I was due to go back after my second maternity leave. Probably thought I was planning to get pregnant again - they weren't wrong!

It's legal blah blah blah but darn, your poor employers... I think I'd be extremely apologetic when informing them.

Bloody hell

TortolaParadise · 26/05/2022 03:17

Congrats! Live your life because your management are certainly living theirs. Be confident and matter of fact. No apology necessary.

Thanks all - I will
focus on the positive messages here rather than te negative. It is such a stressful yet beautiful time being pregnant and especially with 2 so close together it definitely will put a strain on everything but I choose to focus on the fact that 2 years ago I was diagnosed with unexplained infertility and now here I am on baby no.2 - god is good!
I have been working for 14 years in the same company, many a times with extra hours at no extra pay so I don’t think I should be feeling guilty about completing my family and neither should anyone else In a similar situation.

thanks all :)

Tell them now so they can plan

Zara84 · 27/05/2022 01:26

I’m not obliged to tell them until 5 months but yes have informed them today as I had a catch up with my manager and it all turned out fine - looks like something that is fairly common

Zara84 · 27/05/2022 01:27

Thanks @TortolaParadise love your positivity
