Should I quit my job?

I’ve been stuck in a dead end job for five years. Since covid struck, it’s got worse. Gaslighting, bullying & lying management, barely any support from my manager, it’s impossible to book annual leave without kicking up a fuss. People are now leaving by the dozen due to this. I really hate the place and it’s beginning to really drain the life out of me.

My manager has informed me due to the latest casualty (someone has handed in their notice), I have to cover their shift indefinitely as we are over budget for hours in our department - meaning starting at an incredibly early, unsociable hour (think 3-4am starts and I start at 10am now!) I’ve told her I will get back to her on Monday about it but I haven’t told her that I would hand in my notice. I can’t help but feel this is the push I need.

In the last 6 months, I’ve decided to retrain. I have been studying while doing some paid work (albeit not as much as I’m getting paid now) to get some experience to enable me to find full time work in my dream field. My plan would be to hand in my notice (one month period), continue with my studies and work relating to my studies & apply for jobs like crazy. If I don’t get a job offer by the end of my notice period, I will apply for agency work.

Don’t have a mortgage or kids to worry about, have savings that can last me a year & DH can help support me with his salary.

What would you do? Thanks.

Tbh I think there’s nothing quite like handing your notice in to give you the biggest kick into changing your job woes - otherwise we just tend to make excuses not to look for a way out.
