Can anyone tell me where I stand pls, iv got a week booked off work, which was selected 2 months ago, and just been told our shop is getting a refurb and shut that same week, rest of the staff are getting paid as it’s not their fault but because i was off anyway they said it doesn’t affect me, but doesn’t seem fair. Iv said this to them and it’s sorta just been dealt with in a way that’s like, ‘oh well, unlucky’ I’m really angry about it as feels like iv just been took the piss out of, anyone know if they’re in their right to do that, cos technically it means everyone else is getting an extra week than me off, so shouldnt my holiday just be rescheduled, I don’t know, but just feels wrong to me

Just cancel your leave?

Mangofandangoo · 30/03/2022 22:34

Definitely wrong. Cancel you leave

work starts in less than 2 weeks, said they can’t cancel leave with that short of notice, I said well shouldn’t I have an extra weeks holiday then so I’m not losing out, said it doesn’t work like that but I can get in touch with hr and put a complaint in, but why should I have to do all that, we don’t have a union so can’t even go to them, just putting a bad aura in work, not nice knowing you’re getting mugged off

Is that rule in place usually about not being able to cancel leave at short notice? If so I think contacting your union is the only option. I can see why you’re annoyed

Can definitely empathise.

I had 2 hours taken on Monday without a sorry or explaination by a senior - if we'd made a mistake we'll be hauled over the coals for it.
The laughable point was our place has a 2-week request period for leave and I was having to accept losing a 4 day holiday entitlement as it stood to know someone did what they did at a touch of a button for two hours loss of productivity on top without having it in them to communicate. grrr. I feel like everything is against me to keep re-arguing.

What is your role in the shop? Ie manager etc? Would they expect you to work through the closure to prep for reopening or transfer you to another store?
