Consequences of Exchanging Irish driver’s license to Uk license

Hi everyone. I am irish, and have lived in UK for 3 years. I have full irish drivers license which i have held for the past 14 years.

If I exchange this for British drivers license, will my new British license start from this year? Will I loose the benefit of having a 14 year driving history with no claims and no convictions.

I am considering the pros and cons of exchanging my irish drivers license to British one. Any advice will be helpful

I think you would need to ask your insurance company about the no claims bonus, but I don't think it is related to your licence.

I think post Brexit there's now a requirement to exchange your licence after a specific period. It should be separate to no claims bonus etc

Sorry folks I may not have explained myself well. Sorry @Smileygirl2 and @axolotlfloof

What I am really interested in is that section on insurance application where you are asked how many years have you held this license. If I get British licence, and I use it for my insurance, I will be asked how many years have you held this license. If I put one year (technically correct), I will be charged premium for newly qualified drivers. If I put 14 years,, my insurer could technically say I lied because I have a new British license that is less than one year old

So my question is, will the British license come to me as if I have held it for 14 years. Will it be on record in the DVLA that I have held driving license for 14 years. Willl DVLA or whatever the correct authority is, issue me a licence that shows i I have 14 year history of driving, without any motoring offences (I have not had any motoring offences for 14 years of driving, in Ireland and UK)

thank you all
