An acceptable timeframe to accept a job offer

Bit of a hypothetical question!
If you had been offered a job interview for a job you really wanted but nobody can be sure they will get that job. Then you were offered a couple of interviews before the first interview for jobs that were ok but maybe not as good as the first.
You get offered a post with one of the first two lesser jobs, you don’t want to accept until you have had the favourite interview and hopefully bag that job.
How long can you keep an employer hanging after offering you a job ? What would be an acceptable timeframe?
Or, would you accept another job anyway, and if lucky enough to be selected for favourite job, ring and decline the first job?

Accept the job you have been offered if you want it and wait and see what happens with other interviews. If you get offered an job which you would prefer you give back word on any other jobs you have been offered.

You can verbally accept the other offers and if the preferred one comes up, you can just advise the others you won’t be pursuing it any further.
