Adding my post on this topic, hoping for some guidance....
Hello, wonder if anyone can advise if I'm being unreasonable or have a genuine cause to complain here. I work in a school support role - office based, 4 days a week. My day off was changed - not my choice - from a Thursday to a Monday, and this resulted in me effectively "missing out" on the bank holidays which fall in these days. I'm paid for these within my contract, but the day is my day off anyway. Anyway, that was a pain but hey ho. But new issue is that I'm required to work a few additional days as well as term time, and I feel that as two INSET days fall on Mondays, even though I'm paid for them, these hours should effectively be lieu hours - since I would not ordinarily be in work on these days. All staff who work these days anyway, are paid for them as INSETs but obviously don't also sacrifice any out of work time in order to be there. I view it as my rights as a part timer being not equal to those of full time colleagues, or even if my day hadn't been changed, I would not be missing out on two of my own days off. I hope I've explained that well? I took the bank holidays one on the chin, but now these extra two days lost feels unfair, as in the course of an academic year it means I'm actually "down" by about 4 days.
I also questioned the queens jubilee day which we are being granted on a separate day - a Monday - and was told I could forgo having a day in lieu and use these hours towards the time I owe! But surely if I'm working two INSETs on two days I wouldn't usually work, then I've made up the time equivalent of two days extra work?? Am I being daft here? Is there anyone who is HR within a school or union who can advise? If I'm wrong then fine, it just doesn't sit comfortably with me.
