How important is a job title

I’ve been covering my managers maternity leave and she comes back soon so I’d be dropping back down to my substantive role and I’ve been looking for something new.

I’ve been verbally offered a new internal job, it’s the same grade as my substantive role but our salary bands are massive so I might be able to push for a small pay rise.

It’s in an interesting area I think I’d enjoy.

But… the actual job title sounds really junior, and I’m thinking how it might be interpreted on my CV if I move on again?

How important is a job title to you, and if you’re recruiting someone would it seem odd if their latest job sounded more junior?

Massively in my industry.

I got made redundant and was getting nowhere with applications until I.. ahem.. amended my job title slightly changing none of my experience suddenly interviews galore.

I was prepared to blag my way put of it and take the risk of an offer being withdrawn so desperate was I to break through to the next level but no one batted an eyelid or noticed.

Wouldn't have done that if I was leaving a perm job but as I was unemployed thought nothing to lose.

I'm now working at a senior level on 20k more.
