Nursery funding and tax credits and stuff.

DS does two days a week at a private nursery, and I get child tax credit towards it. Now he is 3 the nursery have got the forms to get funding so he gets his 2 days free. I am self-employed doing a variety of things (freelance writing, Avon, selling t-shirts, all sorts really) but we are very broke and in debt so what I am thinking is: if he gets 2 days a week funded, will the tax credits pay for another 2 days so I can get an actual job (because whatever I get will be rubbishy low paid...)?

He won'l necessarily get the 2 days fully funded , it might just count as up to 4 2 1/2 hour sessions.

But yes as long as you & DH work more than 16 hrs a week each you can claim Tax credits

Can you go on the tax credits working out site? I'm only just eligible as my DS is teeny but it was pretty accurate at working out how much I'd get towards it.

So you will need to work 16 hrs now he is 3 (as I remember the rules)

Watch the term lengths - ot's only funding for (about) 39 weeks so remember to average for the summer hols etc (& save that portion of your TC)
