2 job offers - which to accept?

Afternoon.

Pretty much what the title says - have been offered 2 new jobs I'd applied for.

However, I'm unsure which to accept and hoping you fellow Mumsnetters can give me your thoughts.

Job 1) 45 hrs a week Mon-Fri 0800 - 1700hrs - 10 miles away -

Job 2) 40 hrs a week any 5 out of 7 days (including weekends) varied shift patterns but will be 8 hrs anywhere between starting 0630 and close of business at 1930hrs - 5 miles away.

Job 1 is salaried, job 2 is hourly paid

Job 1 is 1.50p per hour more once salary is broken down but is more hours and further away.

Please help!

TIA

Congratulations.

It depends on your life style. I'd go for the regular longer hours and more money because that way i could have weekends free, attend fitnesses classes regularly - have guaranteed free time to do what I enjoy. Especially if you have DC, it could be useful to know you are free to take them to sports fixtures/swimming/dancing etc every weekend.

It's only 5 more miles each way each day. The hours are longer but you will have more income and more control over how you live your life.

I’d go with job 1, you know where you stand with hours, you have weekends free and it’s slightly better pay too

Job one

SecretIdentitee · 17/03/2022 14:10

Are you sure the work hours are correct? Does the 8to5 job have an hour lunch break so effectively timely working 40hrs? Are you sure the other job includes lunchbreaks or would the shift have an extra half hour/hour for lunch.
Either way as per above I think #1 sounds better.

Easily job one based on what you have said. Are they the same job essentially? I'd have to factor in which I'd prefer based on the company ethos, etc.

Job 1 is 0800 - 1700 with 30 mins lunch break paid Job 2 is 40 hrs working with 39 mins break unpaid so essentially only 'working' for 37.5 hours

Job 1 - admin & data input Job 2 - Receptionist with occasional admin duties if necessary

Job 1 unless 10 miles is 10 miles in city traffic.

AnnaSW1 · 17/03/2022 14:38

Job 1

Which do you think you’d enjoy most?

Number 1

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 17/03/2022 14:41

Job 1 definitely. 10 miles is not too far still (unless you’re walking) and I would want the regular times and more pay.

Job 1. Better hours. I also think admin work would be more interesting than reception work and give you more skills /advantage for job hunting/promotions down the line.

user1493494961 · 17/03/2022 14:43

Congratulations. Job 1 seems better hours, I wouldn't fancy starting at 6.30 am.

RuralDwelling · 17/03/2022 14:46

Thank you for your responses

Yes, job 1 is the better option which is what my gut instinct was telling me but I just needed that clarification that I was doing the right thing!

Job 1 it is then!

Thank you all for your help

Wish me luck - I start on Monday Smile

The extra petrol won't cost the extra £67 you earn and you have set working hours so can plan around them, so Job 1 with no weekends and shifts definitely.
NinjaQueen · 17/03/2022 16:03

Definitely job 1 for me.

SecretIdentitee · 20/03/2022 10:12

Good luck tomorrow!
