Sick pay advice

CaiusFatuous · 16/03/2022 10:03

I am sick leave from a long term job. I am just coming up to 6 months full pay and go down to 6 months at 50%. I am a home owner without a partner or dependents. My normal salary is above national average . I have a small amount of savings.

The 50% is going to be a struggle. I can use holiday pay to bolster amount although there isn't a great deal there.

Are there any benefits/universal credit schemes to help me. The only other options are to return to work unwell or to hand in notice and seek another job, again starting unwell.

Your help is appreciated

Do a benefits calculator to see if you can claim uc. Savings do have an impact

You may be eligible for uc/esa if your sickness is long term. CAB can advise on this and budgetting while income is reduced. Are you hoping to return to your job?

Have work sent you a sick pay calculation. Where I’ve worked it’s been 50% with SSP on top which helps bring it up a bit.

I recently was in the same position and ended up with a new job with the same pay but work fewer hours and WFH. It’s better but it’s a struggle as I’m still not well and it’s not clear if I ever will be. If I can’t work we will have to down size earlier than we wanted to. I think there are an awful lot of people working when they are unwell.
