Should I contact to see why

I didn’t get an interview

I’m currently working at an institution well know for being best in field The commute is punishing however and I know I can’t continue physically or mentally.

A similar job came up locally, a grade below and 10k less. I put my application in and they’ve readvertised and not contacted me. I’m confused as on paper I’m a good fit so thought I’d get an interview at least.

Would you contact them to see if there were any specific concerns in the application?

In the last 20 years I’ve been interviewed for every position I’ve applied for so I guess I might be used to assuming that I’m doing the right thing.

I also want to know if I can provide more information and reapply but don’t want to if I’m definitely not a fit for other reasons.

Could it be that you are over qualified for the job? If it's 10k less they might think why would you want to go there, and might think you won't last long so won't offer an interview.
It's the same as if you work in a supermarket in management you might not get an interview for a job on the till in another supermarket

Maybe but the gap isn’t really that much in terms of responsibilities, just the pay.

I was really clear that I wanted to move because of the commute.

Do you think I should contact to find out? I’ve never had to ask for feedback for this reason before so not sure how ok it is to do so - and I’m definitely feeling like my confidence has taken a bit of a blow

Try applying again!
They will likely not bother responding but worth a try! Call and say you would like to apply and want to see how you can improve your skills or whatever?

Bibbetybobbity · 16/03/2022 08:21

Yes, definitely contact them. Don’t just apply again- get in touch and ask if there’s any feedback they can share/anything you can do to strengthen your application/whether you can have an informal conversation with the recruiting manager. Good luck!

@R0tational @Bibbetybobbity

Thought I’d just update. Thanks to your moral support I went back to the company and after the original hr persons phone rang out a couple of times, I called the main switchboard and was put through to someone quite senior in hr. I explained why I was calling and they agreed that I should get feedback, I thought at this point they sounded a bit confused that it hadn’t been progressed.

So a couple of days later my phone starts to ring then emails are coming in. They very much want to talk to me, very sorry my application lost in the system - it had never been seen by senior hr or the recruiting panel. Two interviews later (and the readvert removed after the first one) they offered me the job!

I was a bit down when I originally posted and was very grateful for the moral support to go back and find out a reason why. So thank you all 🙏🏻

Brilliant, you got sorted and offered the job. Congratulations.
I was just going to advise chasing up, as a similar thing happened to me. I was a perfect fit for the spec, heard nothing. Decided to chase up just for feedback if nothing else, turned out my application had also got lost in the email account of a hr member who had left the company. I got an interview and the job!

LaurieFairyCake · 10/04/2022 17:58
