Following another post, I thought it might be a good idea if we all put down our jobs/skills, in case we can help each other out by passing any business to each other!

So far we have:

JANSELL: Publications Designer: newsletters, leaflets, brochures, invitations companies or individuals)

TIGERMOTH: events management and copywriting

MORNINGPAPER (me!): Website design / website consultancy (websites from around £200 per site - billy bargain)

Anyone else?!

OP posts:
Blackduck · 25/11/2004 16:58

What I find scary is dp and I started in the arts (theatre..) and ended up in IT - now how did that happen? Mind you dp does teach 'Video and culture of the moving image' (or so he tells me....)
Beansmum - at leats you have a career plan - I never did!

Easy · 25/11/2004 17:09

Blackduck

Your question about asking you dp what he's thinking about rang a bell with me. DH spent ages last night explaining the control process for some piece of equipment. It was fascinating (not). Thing is, it started when I said "shall we have an early night love?"

Must go, supposed to be putting some visual basic code together right now, while dh and ds make fresh pasta for tea. Pasta machine dh's new toy.

my head is spinning with all this info!
Lol at tinker
so many clever scientists
so many dhs in IT (and also a lot of mumsnetters)
quite a few surprises amongst the list

Anyway here's a longer description of me, not forgetting dh this time:

Me - Copywriting (this is my comfort zone as I have been doing this for over 15 years) Happy, to freelance! I have written all sorts of stuff, named a couple of ice creams in my time as well. Walls Twister was one of mine. More down to earth, spent 7 of those 15 years writing brochures and suchlike for a car manufacturer, so that's a specialist area I suppose.

Also ran retro clothing stalls at brick lane, Portobello and Greenwich markets for many years, and did stalls at music festivals. Still dabble in this, but have no suitable transport. Does anyone in SE London with a large car/small van want to share costs and do the odd stall with me?

Intent on expanding my skills, so now work in communications and events management for a local council.

Mr Tigermoth (ex navy, ex diving and sailing istructor, ex museum technician, ex commercial coffee machine fixer) now controls pests - insects and small animals. Very reasonable rates! Should I change my nickname I wonder....

dh may be shooting pidgeons as part of his job if his bosses can sort it out (jbr hope you are not reading this!) both sons and dh are very excited about this.

dh hates, loathes and detests computers and most modern media technology. Took years before we had any form of answerphone (rather a drawback if you are a freelance copywriter) hates sending or reading emails and loathes the internet with a passion it's hard to convey in mere words.

bottle · 26/11/2004 12:10

mr bottle software writer

Marina · 26/11/2004 12:20

re shooting London pigeons Tigermoth, can I come along too?
Sis, hope the redundancy leads ultimately to better things. Thinking of you, it must still be an odd time.

tigermoth · 26/11/2004 15:11

Marina, the more the merrier - but not for the pigeons, I suppose.

PS Excuse spelling and punctuation in my previous message - here's me telling the world I'm a copywriter . Felt compelled to add something to this thread, but was in a rush, as usual.

tabitha · 26/11/2004 15:26

Jennisaurus · 28/11/2004 22:01

Oooh colditz mum good for you! Its unlikely I will ever go back to care homes, but I adored working there. I still miss my residents and all the lovely hugs and cuddles I got from them. I actually thought of relocating recently, but I am quitting my current job in the not to distant future so no point.

Its a wonderfully satisfying job, even if its very frustrating and sometimes you have to work with carers who clearly dno't give a sh*t

Ooops sorry. I tend to harp on!

tootle · 30/11/2004 12:12

Hmmm, reading all of these jobs has made me very jealous that I never got myself a proper career after finishing University and before having my dd.

Tottle: Until recently worked in admin in education, managing the database. Now a SAHM and able to put more time into studying for Masters in Library and Information Studies (distance learning - yuck). Marina and paolosgirl I may have to pick your brains in the future

I am an unqualified teacher who simply hasn't been sussed yet, taking advantage of free wine and printing off lesson plans from the internet. I am also an unqualified mother and wife who gets sussed on a regular basis.

I'm currently doing nothing much and loving it, I stopped being self employed in March (escort agency owner), trained and worked as A+E nurse before that.
Now development and research seems to be my main area of expertise, constantly tracking down the cheapest flights and grocery prices.
I aspire to live in a commune lolling on bean bags and plaiting my kids' hair all day.
