New job after long break

Hi I've just started a new job and my first day was the longest day of my life. They told me it's a fast paced job (in retail) and that there's always things to do in the shop. First day was a Saturday and it was so quiet and there was nothing to do. I haven't worked for years so it also doesn't help that any hours I get I feel like I'm losing out seeing my children. Which I know is the same for everyone but I couldn't work before and as a single mum i was with them all the time. I woke up this morning and convinced myself I would work there while looking for another job but I don't really want to look for another. My question is for anyone who just started work after a longer period being a stay at home mum how long did it take you and your children to get used to working? Also how long to get used to a new job without hating it??

I'd always say to give it 6 months in a new job to properly settle in. Are you in a probationary period?
I went back to work after 7 years at home and hated it for a good few months then ended up settled in and enjoying it once we all adjusted.
Congratulations on the job, give it a little while and see how you get on
