Work stress

I’m struggling at the moment with severe anxiety and have been signed off work for another 4 weeks. The day my sick note runs out my husband has to have a major operation and I don’t know whether I should extend my sick note or take unpaid leave. My anxiety is due to work not giving a @@it about staff. Hr don’t answer emails or phone and boss is uncaring and cold. She is aware of the operation but now I think I’ll be judged if I take anymore sick as I did say I felt like I could return ( before I knew the date of the operation) I feel like I’m having a meltdown. Anyone got advice?

So it’s not only work related stress then? Are you asking HR things you should be asking your manager?

Advice wise, if you’re not well enough to work, you’re not well enough to work (whether it’s caused by home or work). If you are well enough to work but need time to look after your husband, that should be leave/unpaid leave.

I'd book off annual leave for following the note, unless you think that you won't be fit for work in which case consecutive notes are better.
