I’ve just returned to work, but in a new role as a freelancer, after about 2-3 years’ off in career break/SAHM.
I’d completely forgotten how hard it is to juggle work when the kids are sick and am now feeling more pressure as I’m now self employed. I went through this after my first child, I returned full time after 9 months. But must have just blocked it out of my mind!
At least one member of the family (myself included) has been ill with something for each of past 6 weeks, as my business has taken off. I’m stressed and exhausted!
I share childcare with my husband (in fact he’s stepping up more as he knows I have to make a solid impression with new clients) and I luckily benefit from flexibility with my work arrangements, so can catch up in evenings etc but it’s so tiring. Conscious also this time that it’s very different to being an employee.
Any tips to survive?! I’m really enjoying being back at work and feel confident that I can do well in this new set up. It’s just my output and performance is constantly hampered by illness and fatigue.
