If you work from home, what do you do?

I’m thinking of changing job and would like to work more from home.
What kind of jobs do people do that enable them to wfh and have you always done this or is it a since covid times thing?
I’ve been looking online and actually thought there would be more wfh jobs now as things have changed so much but I haven’t found many advertised yet.

Work for a charity and have an admin and technical role.

Working from home since lockdown. Smile

Civil service accountant, I’ll be going in about once a month, if that, in the “new normal”

A lot of office jobs won't be advertised as work from home as they want you contracted to an office. If you are working from home and they want you in for a day they then have to pay your travel tike and expenses.

In reality most are some form of hybrid. It would be a question to ask at interview - 'what are working arrangements, hours ect?'

MajorCarolDanvers · 06/03/2022 20:40

I work for a charity.

Many charities (although not all) are enabling a great degree of permanent wfh or hybrid for those can and want it. My own organisation gives a choice to all employees to wfh, hybrid or base out of the office.

When looking for jobs look for those displaying the Happy To Talk Flexible Working logo or using the hashtag #YesToFlex

Product Manager for an software company

Bid Management - for a global firm, with no need to go into my local office as my stakeholders are all elsewhere. Yes it's been like this since before covid, but I eased into this arrangement over many years with my employer.

Recruitment
Pre pandemic I worked 1 day from home and the rest in the office. Now it’s the exact opposite but we have new members of the team now all over the place (some abroad) who are 100% remote.

A department within Childrens Services, not social work.

Used to be all driving all over for meetings but now they've realised we can reach so many more on our caseload with virtual meetings. I miss seeing people face to face but we've just returned to the office part time and that has helped

D0lphine · 06/03/2022 22:35

Anything that used to be in an office.

worriedatthemoment · 06/03/2022 22:48

Lawyer

Office full time pre covid. Now at home full time but will start to go back into office 2/3 days a week of my own volition. My home office is a lot nicer and a better set up than my office office though
