So been offered a new job. Didn't ask notice period until after offer which I then told them (3 months) I also asked if there was any negotiation with pay which they confirmed there wasn't - fine no biggie!

They've now said they don't think they are able to accommodate that notice period and can I try and negotiate- long story short is yes I can but I don't want to unless I have a written offer confirming a job either way.

I have a really good relationship with my current manager and I'm moving roles as my progression has stopped so I could probably get away with a 'nice chat' but don't want my name black marked if I then do not formally get this other job.

Other major issue is normally I would have also been asked for any planned leave which I do have for June for a holiday that has been booked for well over a year I don't know whether to flag this now or wait until a formal offer has come through and hope for the best.

I'm a bit put out that they didn't ask these questions before offering and now my hopes are up to potentially be let down

I would email and ask for a formal offer and explain with this you will ask your current employer to shorten notice period. At the same time advise you already have xyz holidays booked and would like confirmation that you can take them.
